  • PRECIP-PREDICT: Development of innovative dynamical approaches for short-term PRECIPitation PREDICTion based on long-term radar datasets, funded by BELSPO, partners: RMI, VUB
  • EXPRIMA: Probabilistic nowcasting and forecasting of extreme precipitation for impact-based warning systems. BELSPO-funded FED-tWIN position between RMI and KU Leuven
  • Extreme rainfall and flash floods within the RMI + SPW-MI cooperation agreement
  • WAITER: AI-driven water assistant, led by Sumaqua and funded by province of Vlaams-Brabant

Their common goal is to improve and integrate weather forecasts with impact-based warning systems for extreme precipitation and floods.

We invite and welcome associated stakeholders and national and international experts to strengthen our cooperation and give feedback on our products related to precipitation observation, forecasts and warnings.

Some practical information

1. Workshop format:
The workshop is planned as a one-day in-person event in Brussels. We are not planning a hybrid format.
The workshop is specifically aimed at users in Belgium. However, discussions with experts from outside Belgium could also be mutually beneficial.

2. Program and Agenda:

The day’s program includes presentations by the RMI on its products and new developments in the morning (09:30-12:00). Participants will, of course, have the opportunity to ask questions during this session.
Lunch will be provided on site.
The afternoon is reserved for all participants to present their work on the topic of precipitation and alerts, and to share their experiences (13:30-15:30). The final session will feature an open exchange and discussion (16:00-17:00).

Please note that you can indicate on the registration form whether you would like to give a presentation and, if so, what the topic will be.
As soon as we have received all the proposals, we will finalize the agenda.

3. Languages:
Presentations will be held in English only. However, you may ask questions in English, French, Flemish, or German.
