Description

Are you in Greenland, Iceland, The Faroe Islands, Norway or Denmark? Then our application can provide location-specific notifications during intense auroral activity on your iOS or Android platform. The interface presents a globe with the current auroral ovals from models driven by magnetic activity. Further it provides real-time monitoring of geomagnetic disturbances from ground-based magnetometer stations in Iceland, Greenland, The Faroe Islands, Denmark and Norway, monitored by Iceland University, the Technical University of Denmark, and Tromsø Geophysical Observatory at UiT – the Arctic University of Norway, respectively.
The first version of the app was released in 2021 for iOS only and included a reduced set of features compared to the current version. The entire backend and user interface were recently redesigned and introduced as a beta release in September 2025. The app is now fully launched and available to all aurora enthusiasts. This poster presentation guides you through the app, and presents the news, like for example the live stream from the all sky camera in Narsarsuaq, and presents future plans.
